Another successful year for Physik Instrumente at the 2018 Motion Control Industry Awards

PI are finalists in both Project of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year.

Physik Instrumente (PI) has caught the attention of the judges of the Motion Control Industry Awards for the third year running, winning the Project of the Year category and reaching the final of  Manufacturer of the Year section. The awards, which took place at the National Conference Centre in Solihull on the 10th of April, acknowledge the achievements of motion control companies and individuals, and have become a leading event in the industry.

PI’s continuing success in the Manufacturer of the Year category can be largely attributed to the company’s partnership approach, working closely with its customers to build long-term, trusted relationships, and helping them to realise the true potential of precision motion and control. This ethos is clearly demonstrated by the University of Oxford Rock Rheology Laboratory case study shortlisted for the Project of the Year category. In its work investigating the nature and mechanisms behind rock deformation, the customer required testing apparatus that would accurately and precisely measure movements on a micron-scale under high pressures and temperatures. Simulating the necessary extreme environmental conditions in a laboratory setting is a highly technical challenge, and a custom-built apparatus was the only option. PI was uniquely qualified to handle the task and the resulting design fulfilled the client’s exceptional requirements.

Dr Lars Hansen, Associate Professor of Rock and Mineral Physics at the Laboratory, said: “We were really lucky to find PI; they were able to do everything within one team, simplifying design, construction, commissioning and troubleshooting. This was our first collaboration and we intend to work with the company on other projects in the future.”
